U12 Win John Power Memorial Cup, U10 Play Tousist in league, Castletownbere play PIFC round 2

U12 Beara Final John Power Memorial Cup
Castletownbere under 12s played urhan in the John Power memorial cup competition final on Sunday last in what can only be described as horrendous conditions. While the pitch was in relatively good underfoot condition the torrential rain falling and strong winds blowing diagonally accross it made playing conditions extremely difficult for both teams.  Town took the field led by team captain LochlanTurner and having won the toss decided to play with with the wind in the first half.  From the throw in the Urhan lads settled faster and were the first to register a score. Town  kept their composure and shape and roared into the game winning the”dirty ball” around the middle of the field securing good possession and putting together a few nice passing movements leading to a few scores chances Scores were hard come by and after a few missed opportunities the town forwards got their eye in and a couple of scores resulted.  The competition around the middle third of the field was intense and possession was at a premium  and hard won. Urhan made several raids on the town defence and each time the goal keeper and defenders held their lines intact and repelled the urhan onslaught. The town lads came in at half time ahead in the game but were facing in to a second half where the elements and a determined urhan team awaited. Conditions were extremely difficult. Had they done enough in the first half with the elements playing a big part in the way the game was going.  As the panel huddled in the dug out taking  instructions from their mentors one could sense they were  determined.  Was this to be their day.  Soaked to the skin and frozen the team returned to the frey.  From the throw in the town lads showed their true grit possibly the first time we saw it this year and digging deep worked the ball in to the heart of the urhan defence. A goal resulted from this attack and it definitely settled the nerves for the remainder of the half. Urhan did not give up and came at the town defence.  Using the elements to their advantage they put a few scores on the board and reduced the deficit. Under strong pressure the town defence battled hard and kept the urhan attack at bay managing to clear their lines finding their forwards who in turn managed to tack on a few scores of their own keeping the urhan backs pinned back in their own half. As the game headed in to the final quarter the town mentors rung the changes and the fresh legs saw the game out to the end  When the referee blew the final whistle it was towns day.  Town captain Lochlan Turner received the John Power memorial cup and graciously acknowledged his opponents urhan for a great game in such poor conditions the team mentors for their efforts and the supporters who supported the team in success and defeat A game not to be forgotten not only for the poor conditions but the determined performance of the town panel which included
