U12 West Region
Castletownbere under 12s played Dunmanway on Thursday night last. Due to holidays and illness town fulfilled this fixture with a depleted squad. Fielding a very young team the lads set about their challenge in a positive and purposeful way. The dunmanway lads were blitzed early on and had no answer to the town onslaught. The town lads fought like tigers, they hassled and chased as if their lives depended on it. They showed great skill and tenacity and capitalised on some, but not all of the hard fought possession They created but missed a number of scorable chances which came back to haunt them before the game concluded. They came in at half time exausted but well ahead on the scoreboard. Dunmanway emptied the bench at half time a luxury Town didn’t have available but our one sub was given his chance. The fresh legs on the dunmanway side paid dividends and the town defense was breached despite their best efforts on more than one occasion early in the second half The town lads exhausted as they were fought hard and brought the game to the dunmanway particularly in the last quarter when they peppered the dunmanway goal bringing several good saves out of the dunmanway goalkeeper. In the end they ran out of time and steam to get the result they richly deserved for their effort. This panel has improved as the year has progressed. Their tackling, blocking and all round play was impressive in this game and they were unlucky not to have a better result. We thank all the parents who travelled and brought players to the game. They play bantry on Monday evening in droum at 7pm.
