Well done to Castletownbere Juniors on winning the Cargery-Beara Division 4 Football League Final

Castletownbere 3.14 St. James 2.9 Well done to all involved

Castletownbere played St. James in The South West Junior League Final Division 4 on Sunday last in Glengarriff in very good conditions. St. James opened with a point but Castletown responded with a point from Reece Dillane followed by another from Donagh Bán O’Sullivan. St. James then sent a fine point over but a lovely combo followed from Reece Dillane to Andrew Murphy who then laid it off to Seán Regan and he ably floated it over. Seán Walsh, Colin Sheehan, Aed O’Shea, Conor Power, Conall Kane and Conor Mc. Quaid were solid in their defence, warded off the attack, goalie John Paul Sheehan also rock steady, then a great pass from Seán Regan to Richard Murphy ensued, and Richard sent another over with ease. St. James however stepped it up with a point and a goal but Gary Hurley sent ‘Town’s fifth point over from a free. A lovely point from Richard Murphy was next and the teams were level, then Gary Hurley sent another over. St. James answered with two points and a goal putting them four points up but then Seán Regan seized his chance and the ball hit the back of St. James net. A great point by Seán Bán O’Sullivan from a lovely pass from Daniel Healy saw the scores level at the half time whistle, 1/8 to 2/5. The second half opened with a point from Seán Regan and from then on saw Castletownbere dominate, they began to pull away and all of the substitutions were brought on, Aaron O’Boyle, Dylan Nolan, Seamus Spencer and Hal Lewis each contributed very well. It was Castletownbere that had a good win in the end , a great display of teamwork with the mix of experience and youth that combined well and the final score was 3/14 to 2/9. Terence O’Shea presented Castletownbere captain Colin Sheehan with the shield and Castletownbere G.A.A would like to congratulate the team and their trainers David Kelly, Peter O’Leary and Gerard Healy.
