Castletownbere met Carrigaline in Castletown – Kenneigh on Sat last in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship in woeful weather conditions. Dean Murphy notched up the first score from a free and Dave Fenton was next to send the ball over the bar. Carrigaline then answered with a point. ‘Town’s David Torres-Garcia, Donagh Wiseman, Lorcan Harrington, Ciarán Murphy, Shane Mc Carthy and Trevor Collins were dogged in their defence and then goalie James Power was on the ball with a superb save. Carrigaline stepped it up and two points were added to their tally. Liam Hanley, Donagh Bán and Declan Dunne combined well, then Jason Walsh sent another over the bar from a free. Carrigaline also scored another point from a free and the first half finished on the score of 0/3 to 0/4 in Carrigaline’s favour. Carrigaline scored their fifth point in the opening seconds of the second half and were awarded a penalty which was sent over the bar. Andrew O’Sullivan scored ‘Town’s fourth point from a forty five and then a great combination from Gary Murphy, Shane Mc. Carthy into Dean Murphy who ably sent another over. Carrigaline again answered with a point but Gary Murphy saw his chance and clocked up ‘Town’s sixth point. Carrigaline scored two more points from frees, Andrew O’Sullivan scored ‘Town’s seventh from a free before the final whistle. ‘Town’s subs also contributed well and this tough encounter in brutal conditions,which could have gone either way, finished on the full time score of 0/9 to 0/7 in Carrigaline’s favour.
