Castletownbere under 12’s played there 2nd West Cork League match against Clonakilty on Sunday 30th at Castletownbere Gaa pitch. The town started off well, playing a strong side like Clon ment our lads had to work very hard. Clon kept the pressure on. At half time time score was 5.3 to 4.2 to Clon. With great encouragement from the trainers Jean and Iris the lads kept there heads up. This was a massive test for our under 12’s, There was no doubt about it Castletownbere put on a great performance and played well as a team. Town fought very hard to the bitter end. Town went on to win the match. The final score was 7.6 to 6.3 to Castletownbere. Well done everyone. The winning team was Gavin Orpen, Darragh Murphy, Breixo Carleton-Villanueva, Ciara Murphy, Mikey Orpen(C), Sean Og O Donegan, Naoise Jeisy, Jack Hanley, James Spencer, Colm Murphy, Jack O Conner, Marty Orpen, Conall O’Neill, Peter Carleton-Villanueva, Chaelim Murphy, Danny Walsh, Fiona Murphy, William O’Driscoll.

The Castletownbere Juniors got their campaign underway last Sunday away to Glengarriff in ideal conditions. The game was of huge importance as the game was doubled up as a South West League game and the Noel Kelly Cup. The Castletownbere team which was a mixture of youth and experience settled well with points coming from Donagh Ban O Sullivan, Owen Power and a free from Seamus Spencer. Glengarriff responded well and the teams went in at half time 4 points apiece. Gary Hurley getting the fourth point for The Town.
Castletownbere didn’t have to wait long in the second half to stretch their lead with the scores coming from two seasoned campaigners. The point coming from Seamus Spencer and the score of the game, a goal from Gary Hurley who tucked the ball home credited to an excellent long kick pass in from Dean Murphy. Castletownbere were able to keep Glengarriff at arm’s length but only for so long until Glengarriff got a goal of their own. It was 1-9 apiece going into the final 5 minutes. Castletownbere responded well with 3 points, a brace from Owen Power and a pointed free from Gary Hurley. However Glengarriff were not to be denied and scored a well worked late goal to share the spoils.
